An array of summer cosmetics, including bright eyeshadow, and makeup brushes.

Summer is a time full of so many events and outings, whether it be a holiday or wedding, but melting foundation, tacky lipstick and smudged mascara are all things we want to avoid during this time of year. If you want to keep your makeup looking flawless and fresh this summer, then there are some summer cosmetics which you need to have in your makeup bag for those days when the weather is working against you.

Fun, Vibrant Colours

In the summer months, you are much more likely to wear a bright top or vibrant handbag, so this time of year is the perfect time to brighten up your makeup choices. Summer cosmetics come in so many different shades and colours that choosing one which works with your wardrobe or other cosmetic products is unlikely to be difficult.

Bright and bold colours brighten the face and help to create a more youthful glow. A peachy blush on the apples of your cheeks is a good place to start if you’re a little apprehensive about going too colourful, but there are so many other types of summer cosmetics you can use. Bright eyeshadows, bold lipsticks and even colourful cosmetic glitter are great additions to have in any summer cosmetic collection.

Glow and Shimmer

Everyone likes having a nice and dewy glow about them, but in the summer months, there is a difference between a healthy-looking glow and over the top shine. When the weather is warmer, summer cosmetics will work far better on your skin, so you may need to switch your makeup choices around slightly.

Avoid heavy creams, including moisturisers and foundations, as the summer humidity will make you shinier than usual and steer clear of cream eyeshadows and blushes, as these won’t last as long when it’s warm out. Instead, use a quality primer and less foundation and setting powder or spray for the finishing touch. Avoid powder blushes, as these may turn cakey when you become warm and instead use a gel or stain. Add a light dusting of highlighter to your nose, cheeks and cupids bow and you have the perfect summer glow.

If you still suffer with shiny makeup, then there are other summer cosmetics you can use as well. Blotting papers are cheap and easy and are perfect to store in your handbag when you're on the go. If you need to refresh your makeup, simply blot and then apply a pressed powder. You want to get rid of shine but still maintain a little glow.

Wear Suncream and UV Protection

Other than hydrating your skin, you also want to make sure that your skin is properly protected from harsh UV rays and sun damage. This means wearing sun protection every day, even under your makeup. Proper sun protection protects your skin against sun damage and the appearance of sun damage later on in life, but often the texture and consistency of suncream can wreak havoc with your makeup application, which is why so many people tend not to do it. However, you can now get moisturiser which has SPF and UV protection added in and when this applied under your makeup, also acts as a primer. Suncream and UV protection is perhaps one of the most important summer cosmetics that you use during the summer months.
